Erika grew up on Long Island. She moved to Vermont in 1979 to attend UVM with a double major in elementary and special education. She met her husband, Joe, while working a summer job at the ferry company. After graduating from UVM, Erika took a position as a classroom teacher at the Baird Center in Burlington, VT. Erika’s knowledge of home construction began when she helped build a family vacation cabin on the coast of Maine. She furthered this education when she and Joe built their Colchester home themselves with lumber cleared from their property. Erika went on to pursue a masters degree in consulting teaching and worked as a consulting teacher at Winooski Middle and High school. When their third child was born, Erika left Winooski to raise the children. She spent several years working as a substitute teacher before beginning her career as a designer. In 2001 Erika took a job as a kitchen and bath designer at a local showroom. She spent 2 years pursuing education with the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) to sit for the Associate Kitchen and Bath Designer Certification (AKBD) exam in September 2006. Erika began working as a designer for DreamMaker in 2005. Erika and Joe are still in their Colchester home where she loves to garden and spend time with family. She enjoys walking local trails, reading and, traveling when possible. She is currently pursuing education to bring her NKBA certification to the next level.
